Crisp, Clean and Always Chic

If you think an all white room is dull or too stark, think again. A white room can make a dramatic impact that you cannot go wrong with.
Decorating with white can brighten a space. It can create the illusion that your room is larger than it really is. And best of all, it works with everyone’s taste and style.

Using layers of texture, soft tones and painted white furniture you will create a comfortable, warm and inviting space.

If the modern look is more of your style, use bright high gloss pieces of furniture and accessories around the room.
(See next post for design example.)
If you have children and want the same look, there are just a few minor adjustments to be made. For example, use mostly warm gray tones for your fabric choices and pop in white furniture, picture frames, and other accessories to create a practical space for your family.

Outdated? I think NOT.

Wallpaper has come a long way since the 1960’s and 70’s. But when most people think of wallcoverings today, they think of how outdated they can be.

On the other hand there are quite a few people, who have jumped back on board with wallpaper.
I think it is a great way to transform a room by adding color and large scale print. Although it is a bigger commitment than paint is and sometimes even more expensive, it can do wonders on your home.
If you are unsure about doing the entire room in wallpaper, then just do one main focal wall, like in your living room or bedroom. But if you’re daring enough, then I say go for it. I personally am in LOVE with dining rooms that are covered in brilliant bold prints.

All About Pattern!

Lately I have been drawn to big, bold prints and patterns.
Don’t get me wrong, they do seem a little scary to incorporate into your home. But that is just because we aren’t sure how to use them correctly, or we are afraid of them.
Start off small.
Add a couple of accent pillows with a pattern alongside your solid color pillows.

Take it to the next level.
Let your curtains be the star of the show. This can also be a great way to introduce more color in your space without painting the walls.

Feeling a little gutsy?
Mix and match patterns and print with pillows, curtains and even rugs.
Do this by tying all the colors in the room together.

Hello, Aloha, Ciao, Hola!

Welcome to my official blog, “Behind the Design.” I would like to start off by introducing myself to you. My name is Ashley; I am an Interior Designer living in Texas.

I graduated from The Art Institute of California- San Diego last year with a bachelors of Science in Interior Design.

I have a passion for all things design. A beautiful room or piece warms my heart and soul. The style of my personal home is furniture with clean lines, mixed with traditional accents and pops of bold patterns. I am in love with anything mid-century modern, and adore mixing pieces to create eclectic spaces.
That is just a tid bit about me…
In this blog you will find (to just name a few) categories I’m calling “Trending Now” -what’s new on the design scene and “Save a buck” – inexpensive finds. And of course anything and everything that I am obsessed with or inspired by.
I hope you stay tuned for things to come.
