Thrifty Thursday: Giant Floor Pillow

What you will need:

2 pieces of fabric cut to 30"x30"
4 pieces of fabric cut to 5"x30
Scissors
Poly fill Stuffing
Sewing Machine
Needle & Thread

(I found this How To on Pinterest to help with the process)

Step One

Sew the 5"x30" pieces of fabric - one to each of the sides of the 30"x30"

Step Two

Then sew the second piece of 30"x30" fabric to one side of the 5"x30

Step Three

Sew the corners together

Do this to all four corners

Step Four

Once all the corners are sewn
Sew the "Bottom" piece of fabric to the all sides of the 5"x30"
(To create a "box")

Leave a 2"-3" opening on one of the sides- so that you turn can the fabric inside out.

Like this!

Step Five

Now you are ready to stuff with the poly fill

You may remember this pouf I made a while back.
Well... I never finished it.
So I took all the stuffing out of it and used it in my new floor pillow- great way to save a buck right!?
But if you are making such a large pillow like mine- you will probably need at least 3 bags of fill.

Step Six
Once you have your pillow fully stuffed, you will need to use your needle and thread to sew up the opening.

NOW YOU ARE FINISHED!!

Now it's time to enjoy your pillow!

Total Cost- Around $45 dollars
(I was lucky enough to have all the materials already- so my pillow was free!)
Total Time- One hour

And...
Here is an upcoming DIY

I found this on the curb side last night!

Five Design Trends for 2015

Gold Fixtures

Gold Fixtures- add such a beautiful sleek and sophistication, that you can't really achieve with stainless or bronze.
But don't be afraid to mix and match the gold with your stainless appliances.

Wallpaper

Wallpaper- helps create such a bold statement in a room. On just an accent wall or an entire space.
We are partial to Yorkwall.com & Thibaut.com

 Mid Century Accents

Pops of mid-century pieces around the home, help add character and usually come with a story about how you came across the piece.

Cowhide

Add warmth with cowhide rug

Blue Accents

Rich deep navy blues will be very popular through the year.

A Summary of Our Holidays

This past month an half has included many crafts, projects, holidays and events.
It wouldn't be the holidays without the rush and stress- right?! haha

I attempted to make some decorative towels with Brayden's footprints...
For Thanksgiving we ran another 5k race. And I made a big thanksgiving dinner for my family.
I also did another "Wreath Revamp" from burlap to Christmas!

I created a Christmas back drop for our holiday card, and it would not have been complete without matching bow ties for Brayden and Chase.

We went to a wedding and Brayden wore a tux!
I learned how to sew pajama pants.
We decorated for Christmas, and spent some time with family.

I made a homemade apple pie.
Sewed an infinity scarf for my mother-in-law out- of out of some awesome fabric I snagged up at Hobby Lobby.
I also made several other hand-made gifts- let's just say my sewing machine was out for basically the whole month of December!
I also won our "first annual family ugly Christmas sweater party".

Christmas Day 2014
(In matching pj pants- of course)

In the work life:
Started a small bathroom remodel.
And started and finished a kitchen remodel in 10 working days.

I also learned how to "arm knit"
(found on Pinterest)
I first practiced with a small amount of yarn to make sure I could really learn do it right.
It is pretty easy to do, and the video is really helpful. Once you get the hang of it, you really can make a scarf in 20 minutes.
I already have an order list from all my co-workers too!

And last but not least, we ended 2014!
It was a great year, but I am looking forward to see what 2015 has to come.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
Best wishes for your year ahead.
