Insiders Tip: A Great Master Bedroom

If you are like me- your master bedroom ends up being the last room on the decorating list, or a hodge podge of left over, unused items.

So I thought this list could help start the ball rollin'- and help get you (myself) on track for a better bedroom.

1. Artwork

Pick something peaceful and calming.
Pictures of your family are wonderful in the rest of your home, but in your bedroom, you want to choose something less emotional- so you are able to rest better.

2. Things You Love

It doesn't have to be an entire bookcase full of items- but a combination of things you love or that have a special meaning behind them. It is also a great place to store those particular items that don't really have a place in the rest of your home.

3. A Great Mattress

This is something we already have, but-let-me-tell-you- it is key!!
We are in love with out mattress!

4. A Place to Sit

A nice place to sit and relax- that is not your bed.

5.Rug

A soft comfortable rug under foot is much more pleasing than stepping on the cold floor.
I know the rug in the picture is a simple plush rug- but a rug can also be a great addition of color and pattern too.

I hope these help to get your master bedroom together.

Thrifty Thursday: Canvas Art

Before

This was my first attempt to make over a canvas I had laying around.
(I spray painted over the existing artwork and painted on our Wedding date.)
We lived with it for a while like this- But it just wasn't what I had envision for the space.

So I got materials and made it over once again.

Materials Needed:

Fabric
Staple Gun & Staples
Scissors
Wooden Numbers or letters
Spray Paint
Hot Glue and Glue Gun
Ribbon

After

This is much bolder and just how I pictured it in the beginning.

Total Cost:
Around $15 Dollars
For spray paint and the numbers

*I had the fabric and ribbon from previous projects.

Insiders Tip: Window Coverings

How To:
Filter Light
Sheer curtains are soft and sophisticated.

How To:
Make Windows Appear Taller & Larger
Hang your curtains at the top of the ceiling, and if you are trying to give the illusion that the window is wider- get a longer rod!

How To:
Trick The Eye
If you have a window that is off center, add curtains to the entire width of the room.
This also helps create a nice back dropped so you can center your bed.

How To:
Faux Window
Create another window with curtains.
Ps. I would have hung these curtains at the ceiling to create even more impact.

Thrifty Thursday: Light Fixture

We recently updated our dining room light fixture.

Before

After

What we needed
Globes
Old fashion Edison light bulbs
Ceiling Medallion- pre painted bronze
(All purchased from Lowes)

Total= $80

My husband unhooked all the wiring from the ceiling- then put the ceiling medallion up.
Then he rehooked the wires.
Then we changed out all the globes and bulbs.

This has has really updated our space so much. I love the vintage feel it has created.

Obsessed With: Metal, Spray Paint & Gray

Here are a couple things that I am currently obsessed with:

Mixing Metal's

Don't be afraid to mix metals- Silver, brass, bronze or chrome.
Just look at these interiors and how well they blend together.

Metallic Spray Paint

Lately, I have been spray painting everything in sight.
This is also helping me to incorporate my "mixing metal" obsession.
Rust-oluem is my brand of choice- for all of my projects. I find they have the best coverage and best colors.

Gray's

As of late- Gray has been taking over tan and beige's spot as a new neutral. I have been using it in our personal home for awhile now. But I couldn't be more excited to have my clients using it now, as well.
