DIY: Pallet Ottoman

I was inspired by an old Post of mine and.. pinterest of course, to make an ottoman out of a pallet.
I took me a while to come up with the exact way I wanted it to look.

But once I knew how I was going to make it- I was so excited that I went to the fabric store asap!

Supplies Needed:

1 Wooden Pallet
Mine is 2’x2 ½’
1 ½ yards of fabric
2” foam the size of your pallet
Batting
enough to cover it twice
4 furniture legs
Mine are from Home Depot and cost less than $3 each
Spray paint or stain
Staple gun
Drill

Total cost: $50 dollars
Time: 1.5 hours (plus drying time)

Step One:
Spray paint or stain the legs
(Do this first to allow enough drying time)

Step Two:
Set the foam pad on top of pallet
Cover with one layer of batting & staple to bottom to secure it to the pallet

Step Three:
Cover with the second layer of batting & repeat steps from step one.

Step Four:
Cover with fabric
Make sure to pull fabric firmly
Staple to bottom of pallet

Step Five:
Pre-drill holes underneath pallet for the legs

Step Six:
Attach legs
(This is where I had a rough time. My legs didn't want to stay in secure enough. So I enforced the hold with liquid nails)

And now you are finished!!

Chase now thinks it's his new place to lay.

I would love to see what latest DIY's you have been creating.

  2. Did you have to apply tufting buttons?

    1. I did not use tufting buttons for this ottoman. But I am sure adding the buttons would give just a little extra something to yours.
Do you plan to make one?

  3. Where do you find foam these items? - pallet, foam, batting (I have no idea what that is) and do the legs come with screws usually?

    1. Hello Derlina,

I got the foam at Hancock Fabrics. It can also be found at Hobby Lobby and even Walmart. Batting normally comes in a roll- it's thin white material used for making blankets mostly.
You should be able to find the batting in the same place that the foam is in.

The legs do come with a small "screw"- its already in the top of the leg.
I ended up having to drill screws into the top of each side to better reinforce them.
      Good luck to you!

  4. I'm trying tl find foam for a paller twice the size of yours. Its just so expensive! Where did you get yours?

    1. Morgan-

You are right about the foam being expensive.
I recently made a tufted headboard. And to save money in foam I bought two full size mattress toppers (you know the egg carton looking ones) They are much cheaper than the foam at the fabrics stores.
      Good luck!

  5. This may be a dumb question, but where do you get a pallet?

    1. Not a dumb question at all.
I was lucky enough to find my pallets at work.
But if you aren't able to do that- then the next best place to look are some local stores/warehouse. If you keep your eyes out sometimes places will have them stacked up along side there builds. Feel free to walk in and ask if they are giving them away. Most of the time they are!

  6. Do you put anything on the underside? Or do you just leave it exposed?

    1. I chose to leave the underside of mine exposed.
But covering the bottom of the pallet with a thin piece of plywood, would only add to the stability of the ottoman.

  9. they are the exact opposite of the former but are preferred by shoppers that are low on budget because they are generally known as cheap mattresses, but both of these types of latex mattresses are highly comfortable and extremely durable. Volvo mattress
