DIY: Painted Chevron Stripes

I recently got a wild idea that I should paint a couple chevron stripes on my son's bedroom wall.
Sounded easy enough- right??..

Well, it was a lot harder and more time consuming that I had imagined- let me just say that.

I started with two pieces of tape, running the length of one of the walls- 12" inches apart.
Then added a third line another 12" on top of that.
Then measured every 6" inches, starting at the end of the wall- added a vertical line of tape.
Next, I cut out all the "inner" pieces of tape

I painted the "inners" - with some of the paint we had left over from the guest bedroom.
Once dried, I peeled the tape away- and found that my "chevron" lines weren't connected.
(Which I should have noticed before I started painting..)
So then-- I had to add more tape to figure out how to make them connect..

Here are the finished stripes- they defiantly aren't perfect, and not completely symmetrical- but I am chalking that up to "Character" ?!?!?! - haha

Just goes to show, that not every project comes out perfect the first time around.
Maybe you will learn from my mistakes on this one.

Happy DIY-ing!

Thrifty Thursday: Fabric Covered Canvas

Do you have any left over canvas'? Or perhaps something you previously painted doesn't work for your home anymore?

What better way to reuse them- than to just re-cover them with fabric for a totally new look.

That's exactly what I did for this next project.

Supplies Needed

16x20 Canvas
Wooden Letters
2.5-3 Yards of fabric
Spray paint
Staple gun
Hot glue gun

Step One:

Spray paint letters
(you may need more than one coat of paint on each letter)

Step Two:

Cut fabric
(make sure you have cut enough to fold over to the back)

Step Three:

Staple corners of fabric

Then staple side
Repeat on all sides
Trim excess material

Step Four:

Glue letters on top of fabric
& hang!

Total cost: $30
Time: 1 hour + drying time

A Baby's Nursery

There is nothing more exciting than to plan your own child’s room.
As soon as we found out what we were having, I started thinking about how to decorate our son’s room.
My latest addiction is.. chevron-- well anything… So naturally I had to incorporate it somewhere in the room.
This fabric was my jumping off point.
You will soon find curtains made out of it.

A shaggy rug to ground the space and add color
We chose to go with white furniture and accents around the room.

And here is our wall color.

So our "theme" is white, Gray and Navy.
(I'm not one to use sports teams or animals in a space.)

You will also find some vintage accents, and an eclectic mix of frames for artwork and photos.

So here is just a peak into the plan for our son's room.
Of course once it is finished, I will post photos!

Trending Now: Polka Dots

Yes, you read correctly. Polka dots!

This fashion trend is making its way into our interiors-- as they always do.

Polka Dots create such a bold, graphic statement in your space. Whether it be on the walls, floors, pillows, or your furniture.

So chic

I love the metallic square dots used here.

Keep the rest of your color palette pretty simple- to let the dots be the star of the room.

Just hits of dots-

Polka dots- add a little something extra to your room. They also give a touch of fun and whimsy too.

DIY Tip:

Use your old laundry basket to paint your own dots. So clever!
